An estimated 14,000,000,000 pounds of trash is dumped in the ocean every year. This trash kills an estimate 1,000,000 sea creatures every year.

THE GREAT PACIFIC GARBAGE PATCH IS ALARMING EVIDENCE OF OUR OVER USE OF PLASTICS

WHAT IS IT?
A concentrated collection of garbage in the ocean roughly the size of Texas in an area between Oregon and Hawaii. The garbage is mainly comprised of plastics that are not biodegradable.

WHY SHOULD YOU CARE ABOUT IT?
This garbage will be around forever! As the Ocean continues to accumulate more plastics the injury to marine life will continue as well as the release of toxins in fish – as they injest these plastics – increasing the toxicity in fish rendering them inedible.

WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT IT?
Avoid using “single use” plastics. Re-usable shopping bags and glass or metal re-usable water bottles these two changes will go a long way!
